To make the front door pleasing to the eye and protect the home – what and how can it be covered with? Finishing the front door: different types of materials How to sheathe an iron entrance door

Repair is an expensive undertaking, and everyone is looking for ways to save on something. Many people try to do a number of jobs with their own hands and involve specialists only at those stages where they cannot do without professionals. This approach is often used when arranging front door. The owner orders a metal door with an open frame without cladding for a minimal amount, and does the cladding himself. Financial benefits and individual interior decoration are the undoubted advantages of this work.

Cladding materials

The range of facing materials today is wide. You can use ready-made decorative panels that are made specifically for cladding. You can experiment with other surface finishes.

Features of choosing material for the front door

The choice of finishing material is based on two factors: aesthetic appearance and performance characteristics. The finish on the front door differs from the interior trim. The inner side is always in comfortable conditions: the humidity level does not change over a wide range, the likelihood of mechanical damage is minimal. Therefore, it can be finished with any material.

The outer finishing layer is constantly exposed aggressive influence moisture, temperature changes, mechanical damage.

Therefore, you should choose a finish depending on aesthetics and performance. The main ones are moisture resistance and mechanical strength of the surface.

Important! When choosing a material, you need to understand the installation technology. They differ in different levels of labor intensity and will require appropriate skills.

Panels (cards) made of pressed plywood and MDF

The range of designs for such overlays is huge. There are regular models with embossed volumetric panels, and there are flat panels with deep milling. Designer models use glass or mirror inserts, patina finishing, and 3D engraving. But when choosing a card, you should first of all pay attention to the type protective coating. The cheapest are embossed MDF cards coated with regular (internal) PVC film. They are ideal for interior cladding. But they are not suitable for the outside, since protective film does not have sufficient strength, the cards will begin to swell and deteriorate. Better quality (and more expensive) covers are coated with a high-strength outer film or painted. polymer paint.

Important! MDF panels with external film can be installed on external doors if the porch is equipped with a wide canopy. Regardless of the quality of the coating, cards are not allowed to come into direct contact with water.

Solid wood panels

This is the most expensive option. You can tint the panel yourself and get the desired shade to match the interior. The surface of the overlay can be varnished several times. A worn surface can be repainted and restored over time. You can always remove the panel and refine it with a new layer of varnish or glaze.

Important! You can make the panels yourself. To do this, use moisture-resistant plywood: cut out a rectangle of the appropriate size and decorate it to your liking. They can be covered with stain, varnish, or homemade panels can be glued on.

Wooden lining

Wooden lining is used for both internal and external decoration of the door. The lining has a locking connection, so it is easy to install, making the jointing smooth. The surface lined with clapboard does not look the same.

Plastic panels and lining

Plastic is not afraid of moisture, but this advantage is completely offset by its low mechanical strength. Therefore, only internal surfaces can be finished with plastic. In addition, outwardly it looks quite unpresentable.

Laminate

Entrance doors to apartments are often covered with laminate. Decorative finishing indoors when using laminate it is carried out comprehensively in combination with floor covering. Such interiors look solid and harmonious.

Upholstery with fabric, dermantin

Finishing with dermantine is one of the most common methods used to decorate old surfaces. Roll insulation with increased elasticity (for example, foam rubber) is usually laid under it. It not only insulates the fabric, but also ensures uniform tension of the fabric and allows for characteristic relief jointing.

Important! Dermantin is rarely used for iron doors. This is due to installation difficulties and its unaesthetic appearance.

Sheathing installation

Facing materials are attached to the canvas in two ways:

  • installation on frame with inside surfaces;
  • screwing (gluing) to a flat surface.

Fastening panels

MDF panels, solid wood paneling or homemade cards are attached with self-tapping screws:

  • Through holes for self-tapping screws are drilled of such a diameter that the screw fits freely into it. The self-tapping screw is inserted into the hole and screwed into the body of the lining with reverse side. As a result, the card is attracted from the surface of the door.

Important! The inner and outer sides are sheathed with overlays. When installing the inner card on the outer surface of the canvas, the heads of the screws that need to be closed will remain visible. Therefore, two overlays are usually purchased or made at once.

  • First, screw on the inner panel, which should be smaller than the outer one.
  • Before installing the card, the cavity of the canvas must be insulated. To do this, use polystyrene foam, mineral wool or isolon.
  • After installing the inner panel, screw on the outer one, drill holes for the keyhole, for the peephole and for the handle fasteners.

This method of installing cladding is the simplest.

Sheathing with slatted material

The load-bearing element for fastening lining, laminate and other slatted material is a frame made of wooden slats, which is attached to the stiffening ribs of the canvas from the inside. The rail is taken the same thickness as the height of the jumpers of the metal frame. It is secured using metal screws. Insulation is placed into the cavity cells and the lining is installed, nailing it to the frame slats.

Important! When using lining, it is also used for sealing slopes. The opening, completely lined with clapboard, looks impressive.

When working with wooden clapboard To decorate the perimeter of the door leaf and close the joints between the slats when there are breaks in the direction of the lines, thin decorative slats are used. When working with plastic and laminate, a plastic starting L-shaped profile is used for such purposes. It is first stuffed around the perimeter of the canvas, and then the cut strips are inserted.

This method is more labor-intensive in all versions, since trimming the lining takes much more time than instantly screwing on the linings.

External lath cladding has some features. If on the inside the thickness of the skin does not matter much, then on the outside it should not protrude much. Therefore, from the outside, the cladding is attached directly to the surface of the door leaf. To do this, take a thin lining and screw it to the canvas with self-tapping screws. Alternatively, you can make a card. The forcing is mounted on a sheet of thin fiberboard with glue exactly as if it were laid directly on the canvas. It is left to dry, pressed down with something heavy so that the typesetting card does not move during the drying process. After drying, it is attached in the same way as ordinary MDF cards.

Slopes

If the owner himself took on the installation and cladding, then to fully complete the finishing of the doorway, he will need to make slopes. There are several options for making slopes. The simplest is to use extensions or install on the slopes the same material from which the door trim is made. Plastering is a dirty and labor-intensive technology, and natural stone does not always match the surrounding interior.

The extensions go well with laminate and panels, as they are similar in appearance. In addition, they are easy to install; they do not require the construction of a complex frame, and a system with telescopic adjustment of the mounting depth of the platband will allow you to carry out the installation yourself without any problems.

To cover the inner surface of an iron door, you can use any material that the owner considers aesthetically attractive and compatible with the rest of the interior. The front door can be covered with wallpaper. To do this, instead of lining, a sheet of plywood is nailed to the frame. The main thing is to form a rigid base on the frame to which the sheathing will be attached.

With a metal door, no other option can compete in strength and durability. But her appearance leaves much to be desired. Therefore, to decorate the front door so that it looks harmonious in the interior, the most various materials. Most often, wood or MDF, laminate is used for cladding; artificial leather is also popular. Each of these materials has its own specifics and installation features. Next, let's look at how to sheathe iron door, and what is the best way to do this.

Before finishing the iron entrance door with any material, you need to prepare everything necessary tools. Depending on the chosen product, you may need glue, Moment Universal, a tape measure, a stationery knife and scissors, and a marking pencil will do. Pliers, a hammer and a stapler will also come in handy. If you plan to cover MDF panels, then you need to take screws, a drill and a jigsaw.

TO preparatory work include the following:

  1. Removing the door. It must be removed from the hinges to make it more convenient to work. The canvas is laid on some supports, the easiest way is to put 4 stools.
  2. Removal of all accessories. It is necessary to dismantle the handles, peephole, locks, and hinges.
  3. Surface cleaning. If the upholstery of an iron door is replaced, the old covering is removed. After this, the surface is thoroughly cleaned from upholstery residues and dirt.
  4. Measuring fabric size and preparing upholstery material.

After this you can start upholstery. Previously, metal painting was used, but paint, in addition to protection against corrosion, does not perform the function of noise and heat insulation.

Faux leather

The use of leatherette is a method of decorating the entrance canvas that has been proven for many generations. Covering metal entrance doors with this material has been practiced for a long time. Current skin substitutes look little different from natural product, but are much cheaper.

In addition to the low price, the advantages of this material are:

  • resistance to external factors: ultraviolet radiation, high humidity, temperature changes;
  • elasticity, ease of installation;
  • ease of care and cleaning, artificial leather can be washed with non-aggressive detergents;
  • excellent decorative properties: you can choose any color and texture;
  • together with insulation, you can make high insulation from noise and the penetration of cold air into the room, and any layer of insulation can be made.

The main disadvantage of leatherette is its low resistance to mechanical damage. Pets can easily ruin such upholstery.

Also, for the upholstery you will have to buy an additional lining - foam rubber with a thickness of 1 to 2 cm or more modern version- isolon.

The procedure for covering a metal door with artificial leather:

  1. Glue is applied to the door leaf. Apply the selected insulation to the surface and smooth it well. Excess material is carefully trimmed.
  2. The artificial leather is cut according to the measurement, adding 12 centimeters in width.
  3. When upholstering the inside of a door, the leatherette is first glued along the upper end, and then, slightly stretching, it is smoothed to the bottom. Be sure to check whether the material has shifted.
  4. Next, they paste over the door around the perimeter, starting from the hinges and ending with the doors with a lock and handle. The work below should be the final stage.
  5. If the upholstery is done on both sides, then it is necessary to ensure that the leatherette does not overlap, otherwise it will not last long in these places.
  6. All excess is cut off, and the necessary holes for the fittings are also cut out. They should be slightly smaller than the required size.
  7. Mount the fasteners and all accessories in place.

Laminate

This material is more associated with finishing the floor, but in fact, it can be successfully used for cladding an iron door. The thickness of the planks is 8 mm, and includes four layers. The bottom one is made of waterproof paper, which is impregnated with resins and paraffin. The next layer is wood fiber material. The top ball is also paper, it is painted and a design is applied to it. The final fourth layer is a polymer film; it performs protective and antistatic functions.

Laminate, as a material for finishing iron entrance doors, has many advantages:

  • low cost: although there are more expensive varieties of this material, laminate is still cheaper than natural wood, although it is not inferior to it in terms of decorative properties and other indicators;
  • a wide range of colors and patterns, most often such products are made as an imitation of natural wood different breeds;
  • UV resistance: laminate does not fade;
  • good insulating properties (from noise and to retain heat).
  • mechanical strength, resistance to scratches and damage.

In addition, the laminated coating is easy to care for; it can be wiped with mild detergents. The only drawback of this practical material is the inability to decorate external doors that go directly to the street. Severe frosts and especially high air humidity are contraindicated for laminate. Therefore, the material is best used for cladding steel doors in apartments of a multi-storey building.

The laminate sheathing installation diagram looks like this:

  1. First, a frame is made from wooden slats; they must match the color of the laminate used. It is fixed to the door leaf using liquid nails.
  2. A sheet is formed from laminate panels required size cutting it with a jigsaw.
  3. Glue is spread over the canvas, after which the laminate shield is pressed against the door.
  4. In order for the materials to “grip” better, the laminate finish is pressed against the canvas with some kind of weight, and left until completely dry.
  5. The last stage of lining an iron door from the inside is the installation of fittings.

Using MDF for finishing

MDF is produced by pressing from wood chips. For better decorative and protective characteristics, additional coatings are used. MDF is often laminated and covered with a thin film. This material is in great demand because it is durable and resistant. The anti-vandal plastic coating is even more durable. In addition to them, MDF is covered with natural wood veneer.

This material is more capricious to use and maintain, but it is very beautiful. If desired, enamel or paint is applied to MDF to improve its decorative properties.

MDF boards have the following properties:

  • it is a non-toxic material and does not emit any harmful compounds;
  • high strength;
  • good insulating properties;
  • possibility of various color and texture solutions;
  • ease of care.

Do not forget that MDF does not like exposure to moisture; such a coating cannot be cleaned with abrasives.

MDF panels are mounted on the door leaf as follows:

  1. Before sheathing the outside of an iron door, the metal must be cleaned and disinfected with some kind of solvent.
  2. Then a layer of paint is applied to help the material adhere better.
  3. Holes for self-tapping screws are made along the entire perimeter in increments of 10 to 15 cm.
  4. Glue is spread over the door leaf, the MDF panel is applied to the door and fixed with self-tapping screws.
  5. The holes necessary for the fittings are drilled, after which they are installed.

Natural wood

Sheathing an iron door with wood is one of the most expensive options. For these purposes, wood from different tree species is used, supplemented with impregnations and stains.

The main advantages of this finish:

  • exceptional decorative properties: a door with such cladding looks solid;
  • environmentally friendly, since wood is a natural material;
  • high strength characteristics;
  • good thermal insulation and sound insulation.

At the same time, in addition to the fairly high price, wooden cladding has other disadvantages: this material is quite heavy, wood does not tolerate moisture.

Covering a metal door with wood is no different from installing MDV.

An old iron door can be sheathed with a variety of materials. They make this element of the room more attractive in appearance and improve the insulation characteristics.

Video:

Although the main function of a metal door is to protect the room, its decorative characteristics are also important. After all, the first impression of a house, apartment and its inhabitants is made by the front door. Some metal systems are already manufactured with finishing. However, so that the door does not stand out from the interior of the room or the overall appearance country house, it’s better to choose it yourself. Next, we’ll look at how to sheathe an iron door from the inside and outside, and how best to do it.

Today this material is very often used for cladding. Laminate as a finishing material has many advantages.

It is chosen because of the following advantages:

  1. It imitates wood, but is much cheaper in price compared to natural wood.
  2. Laminate is not afraid of exposure to ultraviolet radiation, it does not fade and is not afraid of temperature fluctuations.
  3. The cost of the finishing material is low, everyone can afford it.
  4. Dust is invisible on the laminate; it practically does not settle on it.
  5. If you wish, you can purchase products that look like stone or any other material: there are no restrictions in decor and colors.

Laminate also has several disadvantages. Okay, this stuff is afraid. high humidity. Therefore, they cannot be used to decorate the exterior of a metal door in a country house. If, however, the panels are mounted on an external door, they must be covered with a special moisture-resistant film. Also, when finishing a door with laminate, it is quite difficult to insulate it.

Laminated planks come in different thicknesses from 6 to 12 mm, the larger it is, the stronger and better coverage. There are several classes of laminate. In apartments and country houses apply classes 21 and 22, as well as 23. B non-residential premises(offices, government agencies) use 31 or 32, as well as 33 class. Along with the class, the wear resistance and impact strength of the material increases, but its price also increases significantly.

Also, when buying laminate you need to take it into account geometric parameters. If you choose strips 1.2 meters long, then you can sheathe a metal door with them, both vertically and horizontally.

Using leatherette

This material is used for finishing doors made of different materials for a long time. It is mainly popular for insulating wooden entrance structures. But it can also be used for metal.

Leatherette has quite a lot of “advantages”:

  • low cost;
  • he is not afraid of temperature fluctuations;
  • this is a fairly fire-resistant material: it smolders, but does not ignite;
  • it is not afraid of moisture and can be washed with detergents;
  • modern options practically do not fade in the light;
  • With the help of leatherette you can easily make insulation using any thickness of the insulating layer.

The only significant drawback of covering iron entrance doors with leatherette is its poor resistance to mechanical damage: pets or vandals can easily ruin the beautiful coating. But it’s easy to replace such material on your own, use elements for fastening, creating an interesting pattern.

Spraying for metal doors

This is not paint, but a special coating. It consists of fine metal powder with the addition of a polymer filler, applied to the canvas by spraying. Enough new option finishing of metal entrance doors. This treatment protects the iron structure from corrosion and improves its decorative effect.

The main advantages of this finish:

  • spraying is resistant to any atmospheric factors;
  • This good decision for finishing the entrance (external) door in a country house;
  • it can be washed, but without using abrasives;
  • the coating is exceptionally durable; it will last for decades;
  • The finish can be made matte, glossy, in a variety of colors.

However, spraying will not be able to provide sound and heat insulation for a metal door. In addition, this is a rather expensive coating, especially if the door has forged elements.

If you have a paint gun, it’s quite possible to do this kind of finishing on an iron door with your own hands. The main thing is to prepare the canvas well for painting: metal powder can only be applied to a perfectly clean surface. The first cleaning step is to use a special brush or sander. Can be cleaned with solvents. Passivation is also a mandatory stage of preparation. To do this, the surface is treated with chromium nitrate to completely protect against corrosion.

Application of lining

This is another popular method of protecting metal door panels that has been used for a long time. When using it, it is important that the material is well treated with special antiseptics, then the coating will last for many years.

Why lining is so popular:

  • it has good decorative qualities, it can be treated with stains, painted, or applied with a design by burning;
  • Along with its appearance, the lining provides thermal insulation;
  • there is the possibility of additional insulation with various materials;
  • wood protects well from noise penetration;
  • It is not difficult to cover an iron door with clapboard yourself, by installing the strips in any direction, including creating patterns.

You need to take care of this coating carefully, clean it only in a dry way, and also restore it regularly. The price of the lining depends on the type of wood used; the range is quite large. The highest quality and more expensive option is considered to be used for finishing oak.

To cover a metal door with clapboard, it is best to first remove it from its hinges. It will be more convenient to work this way. Next, all fittings (peephole, locks, handles) are removed from the canvas. As in all cases, the canvas must be thoroughly cleaned. If you plan to install insulation, then first install a sheathing of wooden planks, they are fixed with screws for metal. Foam or foam rubber is suitable for insulation. It can also be glued directly to a sheet of metal.

Door trim made of metal MDF

Quite a new version of metal door cladding. Compared to wood, MDF has a more attractive price, but is not inferior in environmental friendliness: it does not emit toxic compounds into the indoor air.

Other advantages of the material include:

  • MDF does not deform during temperature fluctuations;
  • performs the functions of insulation;
  • has a significant service life;
  • the surface is easy to clean and can be washed;
  • You can make any color, embody the most original design solutions.

However, MDF coatings are very difficult to restore if scratches or other damage appears on it. In this case, you will have to replace all the finishing material. When ordering MDF for cladding, it is necessary to take all measurements as accurately as possible, while simultaneously ordering the same from the department for platbands. The most durable option and at the same time the most durable is veneered MDF. More often, oak or birch veneer is used, sometimes it is ash, beech and even mahogany. But then the cost of coverage increases significantly.

Chipboard for metal doors

One of the cheapest options for finishing an iron door from the inside. In addition, such cladding is easy to do on your own. Another “plus” of this material is that you can install insulation with it, of any thickness.

True, chipboard is rarely used in apartments; non-residential suburban or utility rooms are decorated with this material. But chipboard is afraid of moisture, so for exterior finishing or unheated rooms it is unsuitable.

A metal door definitely needs finishing. This way it will look more attractive and will last a long time. In addition, the finishing material allows you to insulate the structure and increase its sound insulation. But before you decorate an iron door from the inside or outside, it must be prepared to protect it from damage by rust. Also, do not forget that not only the door leaf needs decoration, but also the slopes.

Many owners prefer to do apartment renovations with their own hands, especially at the stage of solving design problems. A modern man boldly orders a metal base for the front door and takes care of it himself artistic covering and installation, saving significantly family budget. This is the only solution in cases where the interior decoration of the front door is difficult to combine with the interior of the corridor.

How to cover the front door

When decorating a house from the outside, the master takes into account a wide range of air temperatures in summer and winter, fluctuations in humidity levels depending on precipitation and other operational features. The likelihood of damage to the door leaf inside the house is almost minimal, the influence of natural factors is limited. Selection of materials, suitable for decorating the interior of the corridor, presented in the construction market in a large assortment.

It is necessary to carefully study the instructions and the procedure for performing installation work, taking into account the peculiarity of the location of the rooms. Perhaps it would be better to highlight the central entrance so that it stands out from other openings. The design with mirrored glass looks impressive. An illusion appears free space in a small corridor.

Solid wood panels

The most expensive type of wooden overlays for decorating a metal frame are oak slabs. The high price of wood is justified by its advantages:

The panels can be ordered directly from the machine, and you can paint them yourself, choosing the desired shade. A few years later top layer It is recommended to reapply the varnish to give a new shine to the whole house. In the modern construction market arrays of 40 species of trees are presented.

Laminate

Laminate planks are a multi-layer material that is perfect for interior decoration front door. Laminate has become a popular interior decor because it does not require special skills during installation and is easily assembled into a single piece. Care without special requirements, dirt can be easily removed with microfiber and a damp cloth.

The planks are technically easy to connect with profiles, contours, and decorative elements of any complexity. First, the master takes precise measurements, then assembles a solid laminate panel separately from the metal frame. The plates are mounted on the leaf one by one, because often the shape of the door is not perfectly rectangular. Sometimes you have to deal with intricate cutouts and voluminous elements.

Wooden lining

The high-quality material is universal and is widely used in construction. To decorate doors, it is recommended to use lining made of coniferous wood. Pine and spruce have a number of advantages:

  • less expensive;
  • exudes a pleasant forest aroma;
  • has a natural antimicrobial effect due to phytoncides;
  • beautiful drawing wood fits any design idea.

The lining is easy to assemble into a single piece due to special lock connections, in this case you can create any direction of the jointing line.

Leatherette

Finishing work using artificial leather remains relevant in modern design interiors of houses and apartments. The main advantage of the material is its relative cheapness. It’s easy to sheathe any structure with dermantine, no expensive tools or glue required. The result of the work is a high quality top layer of the front door.

Dermantin has a stable color, and it is possible to choose any shade necessary for implementation design solution. The material does not evaporate toxic substances, repels water drops, and does not deform under temperature changes. Leatherettes are fire resistant. They are easy to care for; just wipe the surface with a clean damp cloth.

Plastic panels

Polyvinyl chloride is often used for lining a metal door. PVC has established itself in the construction market as a high-quality waterproof material that does not absorb moisture, retains its shape, appearance and lasts for a long time. The plastic panel does not rot or crack due to temperature changes in summer and winter.

Thin, even layer tightly adjacent to the main surface, without gaps, forming a continuous decorative surface. A wide selection of textures and colors meets any design needs. With proper care, plastic panels last for many years without losing their original shine.

Combinations of different materials in decorating doors are especially popular. The elements are securely attached to each other, taking into account quality and stylistic compatibility. To perform highly complex work, it is necessary to have additional tools and fastening devices.

How to finish the slopes of the front door from the inside

The luxury of oak and the shine of gold fittings will spoil unattractive slopes; their shape and appearance must be carefully thought out in order to fit organically into the overall environment without loss of functionality. Cosmetic work begins with repairing the base layer.

The plaster will have to be leveled and faced, for example, with plasterboard if the future decor is light. Drywall won't hold up on its surface of bricks. IN difficult cases Alabaster is added to the plaster to make it especially durable.

The pattern and texture of the slopes can repeat the design of the walls in whole or in part. The method of gluing slopes is no different from working with walls in an apartment. To fasten laminar panels or MDF, you need to prepare a perfectly flat surface, especially if the slopes are wide. In narrow areas the panels hold up better. At the same time polyurethane foam reliably fixes decorative material.

In light of modern fashion trends, the design of the entrance door slopes inside the apartment using artificial stone looks stylish and rich. This is a durable decor that does not require special care. A variety of textures and colors allows you to create a unique artistic composition, imitating rough stonework. Compared to natural stone artificial material much lighter, reduces the load on the main structure.

Decoration of slopes decorative stone produced in several stages. To create the desired shape in the chosen style, various layout schemes are used, so a sketch is determined in advance. The material is attached to liquid nails or polyester resins.

Wooden slopes in classic style remain popular today. A wide variety of colors and shades helps to bring any interior to perfection, elegantly and unobtrusively. The disadvantages of wooden slopes include the need to renew the top layer more often than other materials. But the advantages of natural wood far outweigh this drawback.

The most economical entry design option is considered plaster layer. Without prior experience, the opening can be plastered in a few hours efficiently and reliably. Paint of any color that matches the interior of the corridor is applied on top. Plaster is also used in emergency cases to gain time before overhaul, For example. Experienced craftsmen call plaster the most reliable and in a simple way finishing works.

Decorate with plastic doorways extremely rare, because this is an area of increased physical influence, and plastic is not very durable and durable material. But if the door is covered with polyvinyl chloride on top, then perhaps PVC panel will be the only one suitable material for decorating slopes.

Before finishing work doorway thoroughly checked for sealing in the joint area, areas with suspected air leaks are foamed. Then the excess foam is cut off, cleaned and coated with a primer.

Repairing slopes is an interesting activity that requires responsibility. Correctly selected material taking into account operational features is the key to a successful labor-intensive process.

From the article you will learn:

In order for the outer door to look attractive and also not let the outside in cold air and loud sounds, it is often sheathed modern materials with a number of specific characteristics.

The choice of type of cladding material depends on the design of the door, its shape and what the door leaves are made of. An important factor is the location of the product - it needs to be finished with more resistant materials than structures placed indoors.

Below we will look at the most popular options for finishing entrance doors and evaluate their advantages and disadvantages.

Wood paneling

Solid wood It is considered the most expensive material for cladding entrance doors. It is usually used for decoration metal structures not only from the inside, but also from the outside. Wooden panels with carved or scorched patterns, as well as milled finishes, look very beautiful.

Noble wood adds elegance and style to even the simplest door panels, makes the entrance to a home unique and speaks of the high status of its owners. The original texture of the material and exquisite decorative elements make the door the center of the external or interior design. The combination of wood and metal looks unique and beautiful, so you can add forged parts and fancy fittings to the cladding.

Finishing with marine plywood

Feature ship plywood is its high strength, resistance to moisture and the ability to withstand significant temperature fluctuations without consequences. The material acquires similar properties due to its treatment with stain and coating with a protective, frost-resistant varnish.

From the outside, plywood looks like solid noble wood and looks very attractive. However, the high cost of this material does not allow everyone to use it for finishing doors.

High-quality marine plywood must meet the following criteria:

  • have polishing on both sides;
  • consist of veneer of a certain grade;
  • The connections between the layers must be well glued.

Each layer of plywood is connected to others with a special formaldehyde-based adhesive. This technology makes the material even more resistant to various external influences, and therefore it is gladly used by cabinet furniture manufacturers and designers to decorate entrance doors.

MDF paneling

Many homeowners prefer to decorate their entrance structures with panels made of pressed wood fragments glued together with resinous substances. Such panels have a number of attractive properties that natural wood does not have. Among them:

  • moisture resistance;
  • heat resistance;
  • rot resistance.

In addition to high strength indicators, MDF panels refer to materials that are safe for environment. Their variety of colors and design design allows you to decorate the door structure in any style. To order, you can make decorative overlays with an individual pattern or cover them with film yourself. When covering the panels, they are fixed directly to the door leaf or pre-fixed.

MDF panels are quite heavy, so the total weight of the door after covering must be calculated in advance and hinges prepared with a significant margin of safety.

When lining doors made of metal with pressed panels, special care must be taken in areas where seams are welded, and deviations from the standard shape of its leaves must also be taken into account. You can identify such a deviation and determine its size by comparing the size of the diagonal lines.

Laminate finishing

Laminated panels, in fact, also belong to the type of glued-pressed boards consisting of wood fibers. On the surface of such slabs high temperature A special film is applied that is highly durable, antistatic and water-repellent. Thanks to this film, the panels, even with a small thickness (about 7-8 mm), can withstand mechanical loads and temperature changes well.

The film is available in different color scheme, with a pattern and plain, and therefore allows you to decorate the doors the way the owners of the room want. Laminate is easy to use, easy to clean, but still sensitive to excessive moisture, and therefore is not suitable for cladding exterior doors.

Cladding

Natural lining Gives door panels natural aesthetics, neatness and a pleasant appearance. It resembles ordinary wooden slats, but has special fastenings at the edges that allow you to assemble individual elements into a single canvas. The thickness of the slats can vary from 6 to 20 mm.

Traditional lining is made from edged boards of trees of different species: spruce, aspen, linden, pine and others. There are also modern modifications of lining made from particle boards and plastic. Depending on the type of wood, the method of fastening the slats to each other, as well as their thickness, the lining is divided into regular and eurolining.

The lining for lining entrance doors is pre-treated with a product with antiseptic properties, and after completion of the work it is covered with fire-resistant varnish.

For apartment doors, as a rule, inexpensive and not very dense pine is used, and street structures are sheathed with durable lining made of larch or oak, famous for their resistance to water and extreme temperatures. You can also use plastic lining - it is inexpensive and does not rot, but it will have to be changed often, as it quickly fades in the sun.

The composition of sheets of polyvinyl chloride plastic mass, called vinyl plastic, include thermal and light stabilizers that increase their resistance to adverse influences and improve performance characteristics. For cladding door panels, a special grade of vinyl plastic is used - VD, called decorative. The panels of this brand have a thickness that is ideal for work - it is 1.5-3.0 mm.

Viniplast is a panel consisting of two layers: PVC and high-hardness fiberboard.

Vinyl plastic cladding tolerates temperature fluctuations well, is resistant to mechanical stress and is a material that is safe for human health.

Artificial leather, also called leatherette or vinyl leather, is considered the most inexpensive material for door trim. Of course, it cannot compete with more solid materials in its strength, resistance to damage and protective properties, however, it also has a number of advantages:

  • low price;
  • large selection of colors;
  • many options for embossing and texture.

Vinyl leather is sold in rolls of different lengths and widths. The standard dimensions of the material correspond to the width of a typical door and range from 110 to 150 cm.

Options for covering with vinyl leather (leatherette)

Unlike wood-based materials, artificial leather is not afraid of water - it can be attached to doors in wet rooms. However, you should not cover street structures with it, since the resistance to mechanical stress of the leather substitute is low. The foam lining gives the sheathing insulating properties, and decorative nails can be used to create a beautiful decorative pattern.
